During our fifth unit, we learned about groundwater.
In order to do so, we worked with plume maps and a little mythical town called Silver Oaks. Our goal was to find out which water well in Silver Oaks contained and was the origin of the mercury in the water.
Dissolve – become or cause to become incorporated into a liquid so as to form a solution.
Saturated/Saturation – the degree or extent to which something is dissolved or absorbed compared with the maximum possible, usually expressed as a percentage.
Soluble – capable of being dissolved.
Insoluble – incapable of being dissolved.
Solute – the minor component in a solution, dissolved in the solvent.
Solvent – able to dissolve other substances.
Solution – a liquid mixture in which the solute is uniformly distributed within the solvent.
